Updated January 6, 2010 2010 Calendar of Events Note: Selected events are marked “Paid Members only,” mostly for liability-insurance reasons but also because certain events (such as workshops) are organized expressly for members who are most actively supporting the club. To become a Paid Member, please see “Join the Club” on the Home Page. Saturday, January 2 – New Year’s Cruise through the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Lake Union, Seattle. The general plan will be to launch at various points in the Seattle area and rendezvous at Lake Union, have lunch together at a waterfront café and do a shoreline crawl through some of Lake Washington Ship Canal’s marinas, oogling the many classic boats that are tucked in back corners of the marinas. Coordinator: Marty Loken Three Saturdays, January 16, January 30 and February 13 – Winter classes on boating safety, CPR techniques, use of GPS and VHF and other subjects. Most workshops are likely to be held at Mike and Judy Kronick’s NWCBC Clubhouse. (Paid Members only.) Coordinators: Joe and Amanda Saturday, February 27 – Workshop on all-weather boat handling, boat towing and other safety-and-skill-related topics by member Tim Jones, who for 25 years has been towing and otherwise rescuing hapless boaters in the San Juan Islands. Location to be announced. (Paid Members only.) Coordinators: Joe and Amanda Saturday, March 13 – The Slough Run & Lake Washington Rendezvous, featuring two events in one. Slough Runners will take off from Lake Sammamish State Park by 10 a.m., running the length of Lake Sammamish, down the 11-mile Sammamish Slough and then the length of Lake Washington to a finish at Coulon Park. Other members who do not wish to do the Slough will launch at Coulon Park or other Lake Washington ramps and rendezvous just up the Sammamish Slough from Kenmore, to greet Slough Runners as they come down the river…and then accompany them to the south end of Lake Washington. (Paid Members only for the Slough Run itself, for insurance reasons.) Coordinator: Marty Loken Saturday, March 27 – Snohomish River Run, launching in Everett and exploring sloughs in the estuary area between Everett and Marysville. If there’s time, some members may wish to continue upriver to the town of Snohomish, but there will be lots to explore in the lower-river area. Coordinator: Lowell Lorenz Saturday, April 10 – Spring Tune-Up Run, Lake Sammamish, including a barbecue at the home of coordinators Jack and Kathie Dando. If you haven’t gotten your boat out of winter storage yet, this is a great time and place to make sure you’re ready for the summer season…and to specifically get ready for the upcoming Opening Day Parade. (Besides, how could anybody resist an opportunity to sample Jack’s famous ribs?) Saturday, May 1 – Opening Day Parade, Seattle, with the theme of “Out of This World,” as in space exploration, alien visitors, etc. Last year NWCBC won its first award in the Spirit Class of the parade, but we didn’t do much to illustrate the parade theme. This year it would be great if we could have an even bigger turnout of member boats—and if we could do a bit more to decorate our boats, and ourselves, for this huge public event…one of the best venues we have for showing off our classic boats. Coordinator: Marty Loken Saturday, May 22 – Alder Lake Treasure Hunt and lunch. This year Joe and Amanda will provide a lunch for everyone, and there will be a modest fee to offset costs. This is one of the club’s most popular events, on a beautiful lake, so don’t miss it! (Paid Members only.) Coordinators: Joe and Amanda. Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6 – San Juan Islands Exploration. This could be a one- or two-day event, depending on weather conditions and the preferences of members who participate. Lowell plans to launch at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes, but others could launch elsewhere and rendezvous in Anacortes before heading across to the islands. Sucia Island is the likely destination, if the event becomes an overnighter. (Paid Members only.) Coordinator: Lowell Lorenz Saturday, June 26 – Lake Tapps Poker Run and barbecue. This is another one of the most popular events, and a good opportunity to hang out and get better acquainted with other members. (Paid Members only.) Coordinator: Brian Franchini Friday through Sunday, July 16-18 – Mayfield Lake Rendezvous, at Mayfield Lake Resort. Coordinators: Kent and Diane Hodges. (Note: If you want to participate in this one, Diane recommends that you make reservations soon by calling Sheryl at Mayfield Lake Resort, (360) 985-2357. The resort has motel-type rooms, cabins, RV spaces, a store, restaurant, launch ramp and docks for our boats, but they’re very popular so early reservations are strongly recommended. Paid Members only.) Saturday, July 31 – Tacoma Waterfront Tour, including the Working Waterfront Museum and possibly boat rides for some kids with Downs Syndrome who are part of a group that Jack and Kathie Dando have supported. (Paid Members only.) Coordinator: Richard Amberson Saturday, August 14 – LaConner Classic Car & Boat Show. Don’t miss this opportunity to see many of the Northwest’s finest classic cars and trucks, along with vintage yachts (in the water) and a collection of classic trailer boats…including our fleet, displayed in a parking area. This is a fun, not-to-be-missed event. Coordinator: Clint Stroebel Saturday and Sunday, August 28-29 – Puget Sound, End to End Run. (Members can make the entire run, or join in any portion of the event, south- or northbound.) Folks who’ve done this one before rave about it, and we should have great weather (again) this year. (Paid Members only.) Coordinator: Marty Loken Saturday and Sunday, September 11-12 – Lake Chelan Adventure, including a run up to Stehekin and back. This will likely become a three-day event for several members, since it’ll be easier for those coming from a distance to arrive in Chelan Friday evening and be ready for a Saturday morning launch. We’ll run up this spectacular lake to the village of Stehekin at the north end, overnighting aboard our boats or at local accommodations. (More details to come.) Coordinators: Chuck Bauer and Greg James. Saturday, September 25 – Mason Lake Rendezvous. We had a record total of 31 boats at the 2009 Mason Lake Rendezvous, held at a beautiful private lakefront park. No reason why this shouldn’t be another big gathering of classic boats. (Paid Members only.) Coordinator: Marty Loken Saturday, October 9 – Restoration Workshop, with topics to be announced as we get closer to the event. (Paid Members only.) Coordinator: Marty Loken Saturday, October 23 – Yale Lake and Swift Reservoir, on the Lewis River near Kelso, weather permitting. Coordinators: Joe and Amanda Saturday, November 13 – Annual Planning Meeting. (Paid Members only.) Coordinators: To be elected!!! Copyright
