Snohomish River Run

The next adventure is March 27th, Snohomish River Run and Sloughs of the Delta area between City of Snohomish and Marysville. The starting time is noon and it will be a three hour tour, plus one.

This area of the river and sloughs have very little current and no rapids the channels are 100 to 300 feet wide and fairly deep. However it is recommended you stay in the center and watch for logs and deadheads. This area is mainly in the country going past pastures, sparse spruce tree forests, with a sprinkle of old rundown marinas tucked along the shores.

The launch is at Rotary Park 3505 Lowell Snohomish River Rd, in Everett. This is a nice cement 2 lane launch ramp with a dock. From the launch we’ll go down river 6 miles to Jetty Island and the mouth of the Snohomish River in Everett. We can stop there at the dock and go for a walk to the windy, sandy west side overlooking Port Gardner and Possession Sound. Then the plan is to go back up River and enter Steamboat Slough, circumnavigate Otter Island and enter Ebey Sough. Once in Ebey this leads you to Marysville where there is another dock at a park. We can tie up to the dock there if necessary. Then we will return to the launch ramp and if there is time, make a quick fast run 6 miles upriver to the Town of Snohomish.

Lowell, Just a heads up on that launch. Seems like last time I was on the river, it was closed for some reason. Might want to swing by and make sure it's up and running.

We're looking forward to this one, and will be there with the '56 Reinell and 18hp outboard...which should be good for slow explorations of the backwaters.

Cindy and I did this last year and it was a lot of fun.

I checked out the launch ramp a few days ago at midtide and there is plenty of depth. Last year it was silted in.

Lowell, I have seen this launch at low tide and if I remember right there about 20 ft. out is a fair amount of jagged out croppings. Can this be a problem to something like my Skagit Express? If so I could launch at Everett and meet you guys up river at Lowel. I've done a little cruising in that area and have always enjoyed it because of all the different things to see and explore. I might have out of town guess but I will try to make it to this one for sure.

The tide level will be 6 to 7 feet and coming up at noon. I don't think you will have trouble at that tide level. If everyone wants to launch at the 10th street launch in Everett I'm ok with that. I picked Rotary Park because I know some members don't like salt water on their trailers and you get a fresh water rinse and flush in your outboard.

I do agree with you, the 10th street boat launch is much nicer with more docks and a better slope. We will be loading back up at around 7 to 8 foot tide level.

try, try, again

Like many of you, my customers projects trump my own. Testing time for the slough run was cut short; resulting in our decision to forgo running the Sammamish gauntlet at the eleventh hour.

Our goal of hitting every possible event this year will start with this run. The appropriately rechristened "Ebey Slough-Mo" 1963 Pacific Mariner Stiletto/jet will be in shakedown mode before disassembly and final finishing.

One of the reasons we built a jet was to explore our home waters of the Snohomish River. I look forward to seeing how the experienced guides navigate through this beautiful area and around the hidden obstacles.

I waited 12 hours to recover from the pounding I took on Lake Washington while trying to keep up with Tim and the G3. Went from windy, spray over the cabin type adventure to a peaceful mellow cruise through the sloughs of the Snohomish River. I checked out the route and hazards for the trip on the 27th.

The upper enterance to Ebey Slough is a little dirty with sand bars and logs but very easy to get past. Almost made it to Marysville, went past Otter Island and back south up Steamboat Slough then into the River itself to the ramp. There are a few deadheads every once in awhile but they were easy to spot if you keep your speed below 10 mph.

Stoped and explored the interior of Otter Island, best to have a pair of rubber boots, your shoes get somewhat sticky and brown. Had two young boys with me who just had to get onto to a 50 foot sunk fishboat that is sticking out of the water at a 60 degree angle. And for me, alot of birds in the area to watch. I think this trip will be fun for everyone.

Looking forward to it Lowell, thanks for scouting it out. I've been up the river from Dagmar's to Snohomish but haven't explored any of the sloughs, have wanted to for a while now. Should be fun!

Lowell, sounds like I made the right decision to exit the water at Kenmore. My little boat would have beat me up pretty bad on the rough water of Lake Washington, if it even survived! Thanks for braving the elements and escorting Tim down to Coulon Park. We are looking forward to the Snohomish River adventure!

I was really looking forward to this event as the break-in event for the Chris Craft trailer and restored motor. Unfortunately the big red boat won't be ready by the 27th and I will be pushing my luck to even finish by opening day...

So if I can get down there in time I will hopefully be there with the Havoc, although is there any part of this trip that involves saltwater? I have never had either of my boats in saltwater and would really like to keep it that way...
