  • I have my 1955 skagit

    OK guys I have my 1955 express cruiser classic. She needs a lot of work. Any suggestions

    How about some pictures and more of an idea on what needs done.

    1959 Skagit 20ft Offshore, 1959 Skagit 16ft Skimaster,
    1961 17ft Dorsett Catalina.1958 Uniflite 17 ft
    Outboards: 2.5 Bearcats, 3 50hp White shadow Mercs
    2 40hp Johnsons, several smaller Old kickers for a total of 12

      1955 skagit

      So far transom is solid, what I need to know first is how to tell if the stringers are ok under the fiberglass. Pics are coming.

        The beauty of a Skagit is that the stringers are fiberglass. The way 1955 Skagits were built extra strong, the stringers should be good. Look down the bottom of the hull to see if it is flat with no hook. Clint

          Clint and I both own Skagits and yes, Fiberglass stringers.
          Some of the Bell Boys were that way too, but there's was not as beefy as the Skagits are.

          I think the only wood to them was a trim piece under the lip of the stringer as so when you screwed down the floor, it would go though the glass into the wood trim piece. It wasn't really necessary to have the trim pieces in...:TwoCents1:
