  • How many Bearcat owner are on the forum?

Just curious how many people are running these. I've been running this last one for almost two months with almost zero problems. Uses no oil, no lower unit leaks and is the best running of the 55's so far. I have a 12 pitch prop on the 16 ft aluminum Sylvan, WOT 26 mph @ 5300 rpm. It trolls at 500 rpm @ 1.5 mph. Like the other two it doesn't like to be trailered with the engine tilted up, the bottom cylinder will fill with oil and and at startup I can smoke out most vintage twostrokes! Looking at my trailer I can raise the rollers then shorten the transom saver to have less of a tilt, might have to do this. Overall I'm very pleased with this engine, it performs very well for my application. I still have the 85hp and will run it again sometime soon.

I have one on my 16 ft BellBoy. Really has worked out well. I left mine tilted on the transom saver for some time (a month or so) and it blew out a pretty nice cloud of smoke on start-up. I had been bragging somwhat to my friend, along for the ride. After some good natured kidding, and a threatend dunking,we got underway... Its never done that again but I always let the motor down at rest. For what we use it for it's worked out perfect, altho my next boat will have go faster! - Ross

That's three and I know their is two more out there. I'm not feeling so lonely anymore! Ross, I've had the same problem when I've had the engine tilted up for extended periods on two of the engines, I can't remember on the third as it's been sitting for a couple years now. Fried my rectifier yesterday so it's off to Radio Shack for a new one in the morning.

              I have 3 of 'em

Got 3 of 'em (not running) in storage awaiting my attention. Don't know when I'll be able to get to them...

I just bought one two weeks ago literally for a song. 1966 Bearcat 55. Is Bearcat Bill and Ed Ewing the only people to get parts from? Only 26 mph? Seems like it would go faster.
