  • Bearcat 55 compression results

I was having a little trouble with the solenoid, so I connected the terminals direct. All of the cylinders are exactly 180 psi. I hope that's good for a '66 Bearcat. The first pump was 70 psi on all cylinders. I can't remember from mechanics school what the percentage was supposed to be. This coinsides with my assumption that after the motor was rebuilt, the people who owned it, ran for just a little while, and then let the boat sit for a long time. Anyway, if any one has any feedback on the correct cyl. psi., I'd like to know. I also found some spider nests and other junk when I took the lower unit off. Time to put this thing back together.

I think mine are at about 175 or in that neighborhood anyway.
Not bad for the size of slug and stroke they have I would say.
Don't have the manual as its up in the shop but that sounds pretty ok. :TwoCents1:

I looked in the late manual, it only states 110 psi minimum. None of mine have compression as high yours. My '65 is 140 and the rest are around 120. I often wondered if my gauge was way off but for the 85hp it's suppose to be 175 and I'm reading 165 across all 4 cylinders.
