  • Kewl YouTube Video Restoration of Calypso

For those of you who still have fond memories of Jacques Cousteau and Calypso, check out the Restoration of Calypso on YouTube.

Part I is 37 Mgbt's and part II is 150 Mgbts! Took an hour to download part II, but was worth it. It's in French, so don't forget to turn on the closed captioning.

Original plan was to make Calypso a sort of museum piece, like a movie set prop. But the new plan is a complete refit with all new frames and planking and put her to sea again as an ambassador for environmental awareness.

Kudos to Francine Cousteau who pulled this restoration together!

Back in the 80's I took some pix of the Alcyone when it was tied up near the San Fran Bay Bridge. Like me, it was a strange looking bird.

I too saw Alcyone about the same time in Friday Harbor. About 1987. I have pics somewhere. Interesting looking boat.
