We decided to take the boat out this evening for one final shakedown before the big parade day and to see if Declan is going to be ok on the boat all day Saturday...

Boat ran great and Declan loved every minute of it!! He especially liked what happens when the red lever gets pushed forward... Also learned that he prefers right turns.

I wonder, how young is too young to learn to drive a boat??

Never too early Brian. He sure is cute. That's me and my baby girl going on 3 years ago now. The kids absolutely love going out on the boat, or playing in it in the driveway. My fiance just rolls her eyes and says "good god they are just like you"

Great pics guys! Never too young is right...matter of fact, that's the right age IMHO. That's when I started with my son and he's 13 and loves everything about boats and the water. I even had him go through the WA boaters exam in the event something happens to me while we're on the water. No complaining and went right to it.

Brian what body of water is that?

Brian, never too young is right, my 5 year old grandson just loves the water and likes helping work on the boat. We plan to get in the water Sunday, (darn work always gets in the way or it would be this morning). safe boating, madbohunk

If he can put one hand on the wheel and the other on the throttle while his little butt is on the seat he is ready. He might not be able to see where he's going but it seems half the people out there can't.

We took the boat out again this evening and Declan still loves every minute on the water! He was climbing all around the boat, then he drove us the length of Lake Whatcom, back to the launch area. I chickened out when it came to docking and I took control, maybe next time I'll let him "kick it on in"...

Hey Joe, my first trip in the family boat was 1961, I was 2 years old.

Dad took this photo at dot island, on chuckanut bay, whatcom county.

I would later restore the family boat, when I was 15.....Steve.

Notice, no Washington state stickers were in use in 1975.
