Costco Boat Shelter?

I looked on the Costco website because I need a shelter for the Tyee I am getting from Bill. I didn't see anything that looked like the right thing... Can anyone give me some direction? The only thing I saw was $600! Ideas? -Ken

Costco doesn't always have the standard 10x20 shelters in stock--or their stock varies wildly from one store to another--so they may not have them on the website.

You need to check with individual stores in your area: just ask if they have the 10x20's in stock...somebody will know what you mean, and they sure aren't $600, although in the past year they've gone up from about $165 to around $210-ish.

Also, from what I've seen, there's no rhyme nor reason why they have them at certain times, and then are out for months.

Moto Shade makes several models from around $150-250 for a 10x20, depending on the exact model. Here's a link to the CTS model (light duty) at Wal-Mart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4642460

The XTS model has two more legs and they're beefier, lasts longer, IF you can find one (Wal-Mart is closing them out).

My CTS lasted me several years, even with snow & wind loads.

Last month I looked at the 10x20 and 12x25 models at Joes since they were on sale. The material seemed much thinner than on a Costco model.

I got my 12W x 24L x 12H shelter from them a few years ago and it is still in excellent condition, but it was over $300 on sale ($600 in todays money). Naturally it was a close out and they don't make them any more. They do have the same one in a 14' width for $600+. It has a heavy galvinized steel pipe frame, and a ten ounce per square foot cover. It hasn't moved an inch in our wind storms. My GI Joes shelter has flipped over twice in the same time period.

Mine is tall enough that I can stand up in the boat on the trailer, with out banging my heaed on the pipe frame. If you plan to do any work on the boat in the structure, look for something like this. Your head will thank you.:)

Ken, I might as well throw in my 3 cents. The Shelter i have will cost you at least $600.00 plus BUT, "remember you pay for what you get " This one is 40' ( i started out with a 20' one and kept adding on to it ) so it did cost more and it has held up now for 6 years even with a tree that hit it ( you can replace the pipes 1 5/8 ( $48.00 ) and the snow. The nice thing is you can add on anytime and i have had 2 others in the past 12 years. The footing block weight 97 lb each for the legs. No wind problem ! I just picked one up from our local Costco here in Silverdale. Price has gone up to $249.00. They are the 20x10 type with the sides, back, and zippered front.

Odds are good your Costco will have them in stock. Good Luck!

When I was looking for a costco shelter they did not show it online but they had a couple in the store. Cost me $185

Before finding the 10X20 canopy at Costco, I checked out the Joe's cover. As stated above, it's a lot cheaper (in quality) than the Costco one. I bought a Costco cover year ago last but it couldn't withstand much snow on the roof. Although I kept pushing snow off of it, there was not enought support on the roof. Ultimately caved in.
Then I bought the Costco version late this last year and they had tension cables running the length of the roof on each side. That's the best one I've had from Costco. And the price was $165.
Agree with calling around to find one. For the money, they're the best. :)

In January during a wind storm, my 10X20 shelter became airborne, 'pretzelizing' some of the metal poles. After some repair work on the poles, I remounted the base, this time on two 4X6X20 treated wood which in turn were bolted to heavy concrete feet. So warning, anchor her down really well!
