A couple weeks ago I tried to crank up the elgin 40hp I got with the herters blackberry find. Sombody has bypassed the fuel pump and put on an electric fuel pump. I connected some jumper cables to the wireing harness and the electric fuel pump worked. I turned the ignition switch but it would not turn over. I then went straight to the starter. The motor turned over and seems to have strong compression. No spark though. I think it has points under the flywheel and I dont have the tools or the inclination to pull it.I didnt test the compression with a pressure guage, but it seems strong. I am going to just pull it and put on my 50 hp merc. Anybody want to buy an elgin?

I have 2 40hp Elgins. One runs great the other no spark and still checking to see why. I could maybe give you $50 for it if I can figure out a way to get it to Central Calif.
