Vinyl on an engine box hides so much...

We decided to rebuild the engine box on the Chris Craft since it was a little "wobbly" and after removing the vinyl and sanding the original paint we discovered several areas of rot... On top of that we discovered that almost every fastener had either corroded to nothing or come loose...

Spent the weekend picking out all the old putty covering all the screws so we could replace them. Luckily my father had some spare mahogany plywood left over from an old restoration, so we got to cut out two major panels of rot and replace with "fresh" wood (plywood was from 1980)...

Below are some pics of the repaired, puttied but not sanded box, along with a deceptive photo of what it looked like before we took it apart...

We decide to replace the front corner completely cause that's the side that is open to the walk through front seat and they it was ground down to remove the rot would have resulted in a good size gap between the box the seat...

We talked to Perfect Fit and Fisheries and apparently the red nautolex flooring has been out of production for "decades"... So now we are trying to see if there is a NOS supply somewhere online or suitable replacement... If we can't find anything I may have to do a patch work floor replacement for now and really do it right once we figure out what the best solution is...:shocked2:

The Spiggot for the Chrome Tow bit took a few tries,but sure looks good compared to the Duct taped cushion you had before.New foam is in the main portion so should be a cozy tanning platform.
Now you HAVE to paint the boat of course......StirPot
