  • Epoxy shelf life

From time to time, there have been remarks on this site about the shelf life to be expected with epoxy resins. As is said, "your results may vary", but very recently I used some leftover System 3 epoxy resin and hardener that I have had for at least fourteen years since refurbishing my boat. There were about two inches of material left in the bottom of each of the two 5-gallon containers. A key point is that first I warmed the old resin by putting its container in hot water until the "crystalized" cloudy and murky material had disolved back into the rest of the resin. Naturally, I mixed it well and tested it, and then I used it to repair a broken slat in an outdoor bench, a running board on my SUV, and a hole in a pickup camper shell. In each case, the result was good, and I still have enough left to do some other repairs when I need to do so. That surely beats having to buy some more at present prices.
