My wife and I just moved to the PAC-NW from SFO Bay. I've been a Rag-Sailor for over 30+yrs. I'm getting too tired of fighting, tugging and pulling on sheets, lines & halyards just to go 5or6kts...
So we just bought a 59' Dorsett "Catalina" project boat. I love classic boats with classic lines(prefer wood but...$$$ and +++time to do it right) hence "Fiberglassics"
We're going to name her "Pugzly" since all the lines converge up front kinda like a "Pug".
I'll definatly be asking for expertice and advice on my new project.
Hey Delvel,
Good choice,,and welcome..I am in you're neck of the woods..sorta, Lk. Roosevelt, Porcupine Bay..You must be the folks that beat me to that boat by 5 minuets...or it would be at my house:)...let me know when you get her floating...

Always happy to give advice. From my experience with old boats, I'd advise dumping it on Tim as fast as you can. :) Actually, it is a fine looking boat and everyone should have something to throw money at. Welcome to the club!

Well, the way I see it is.
Look at the cost of new boats.
Look at the cost of new power for a boat.
Look how fast the new boats depreciate.
Look how safe the new boats are.
The fact is, you have a better built boat (glass wise).
Foam it, you have a safer boat then some of the new ones.
Its a Classic so no more depreciation.
Choose the power of your choice.
For members, we will be offering complete step by step transom replacement with recommendations on products that have been used, all associated with photos. Same with other process's of restoration.
Some folks enjoy just the outings with them.
Some folks enjoy the Restoration process.
All of us like the comments we get with them finished or not.
Take a look at what Tim Wilson has done as he is close to you.
Maybe Tim will even give you a ride soon too.
Welcome to the group as I think you will find folks that are willing to give you their opinions.
If you get enough opinions from folks, you can form your own on what you want to do.
Whatever you do with her, Enjoy it all.
