    Wait for it

Craigs list is a great site to watch. Be patient and pounce when you see stuff on your want list for next to nothing.

Or come up to Bellingham to Pacific Marine Exchange. Mike's got all kinds of good stuff and his prices are right. You can call him at 360-738-8535.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness.":shocked4:

This store rivals second wave for having the odd ball hard to find vintage stuff at really good prices!!! I am there almost weekly checking / hoping to find some of my missing or broken hardware.

If you know what you are looking for, try to find an image of it or give a real complete discription and some us parts hounds might be able to spot it for you...

A quick addition based upon my experiences of shopping at Second Wave in Seattle. Urban Seattle would not be my first choice to look for bargains, but with gas prices what they are and limited free time, I'm exploring local options.

I'm certainly no expert, but as far as I can tell prices there for used items are probably fairly competitive on most things. Some items do seem to be marked a bit high, (Used wooden items come to mind, or small hatch covers) others are pretty cheap.

Depending on the mood of the person at the sales counter when you are shopping, you might attempt to negotiate for an adjustment.

For example, I was pleasantly suprised that a metal surface mount Aquaguide compass with a black hood was considered overvalued, so an adjusted price was $15 lower.

My guess is that much depends on the person asking and the person being asked at a particular moment in time.

Totally true, If you are unlucky enough to get one of the younger guys ringing you up they don't have the power to adjust any prices and depending on how busy the store is they may or may not be willing to ask the manager / owner.

We went in saturday and got an almost new pair of red fenders for $20 (normally $20 each at WM) and I dug through their misc fender hardware and found a hand full of the "Fender Plugs" our Chris Craft utilizes, they were marked $2.33 ea and I got 5 for $1!!!! Sometimes you just get lucky...

                        That was good luck indeed.

I lost a fender that I bought there recently. I didn't know the correct way to fasten it to a line, and so lost it promptly on my first trial run of the boat.
