  • My First Outboard

Came across this picture recently. My first outboard, 3 HP. 1960. Paid $40 for that gem. Was I proud of that thing!

Great photo Tim. Wish i would have taken a photo of my first outboard motor, a 3hp Elgin that a neighbor gave me in 1958 for trimming his hedge. Ran strong. Used to put it on a 14ft wood Rays boathouse boat and go fishing for big cod across the sound at Agate Pass, crazy, stupid kids that we were! Good old days, sigh.

Ditto what Kent said. Great picture Tim, thanks for the flash back.

We also had a Collie growing up. That dog protected us from 53 until I think 68. No one dared touch one of us kids.

That looks like a 55 Chevy towing the boat. I learned to drive in a 55 Chevy wagon. You gotta love those 55's. Like Kent said, the good old days.

Really cool picture/memory Tim, those little guys really hold their value- bought a similar. (albeit 50+ year older), copy for the same 40 bones earlier this year.

Bet yours got more use than mine will ...

That is looking like a early Olds, say, 52, 53?

            I remember those, I think.
Mine on the back of my little 10 foot fishing boat, sit on the left side to slow it down even more, sit on the right side, the RPM would come up a little for faster trolling VeryBigSmile

I remember that, did the same thing on my 10ft boat! Isn't one of those one that I gave you?

I also remember my first OB, actually two. Neighbor was having a yard sale and I bought a Clinton J-9 and a Wizard Super 5 for $10. Clinton ran great and I used it many years. Wizard was used some but had issues.

You know, I really can't remember were it came from. I do know the second one came from a fellow I worked with in Sandy. It ran too :GoodJob:
