  • Discovered a funny thing on Saratogan hull 2 today

Been working on Skagit 31 hull 2. Removing blue paint from inside the cabin windows or where the windows used to be. Started on the starboard side and discovered a huge amount of Bondo around the window edges. Slow going with Peel Away paint remover.

Yesterday applied some Peel Away to the forward wrap-around windows. Today I started removing the paint and what I discovered was that Tom fiberglassed over the Plexiglas windows. I'm scraping away and notice that I can see through the panel. Oh!, It's the original Plexi!. Tom pulled the rubber weather strip, replaced it with Bondo, then glassed over the outside. Okay!

Going to be slow going until I can get some light (via the windows) back in the cabin. Man, there is a ton of Bondo in there.

Do you have any idea why they covered all the windows? For a cruiser it makes no sense at all...

Good luck! Keep up the good fight!

I think Tom's plan was to eliminate leaks and then add round bronze opening ports.
