  • Out Cruising in March and May

I was out cruising in March and May. I moved the Saratogan to Anacortes Marina, covered moorage. Nice to come back to the boat and find it warm and dry inside. Cockpit and bilge dry too.

I spent some time aboard the first week in March and also four days first week in May. A bit cool in March, but some nice calm weather. Four days aboard first week in May. Cut the weather a little tight and wound up making the Rosario Strait crossing between Peavine Pass and the north end of Cypress Island. Usually a bit calmer going that way when wind is out of the south. Even the ferries use that route when Rosario is kicking up. I made a short video of that stretch which I'll try to post the link here.

Started pulling the mahogany bright work out of the cockpit to bring home and refinish. Oxalic acid sure works wonders on stained mahog. Overdue for a haul out, so that's next. Going to repaint the bottom. Coming up on five years for the CopperPoxy. Lots more light growth at the waterline in Anacortes. Thinking it was the ferry wash in Friday Harbor that kept the hull clean of grass. Having a problem with auras around the engine raw water through hull fittings. Renders the antifouling ineffective for two feet around the thru-hull fitting. Weird. Talked to a boatyard guy who said to leave a two inch unpainted ring around the fitting. Will give that a try.

Are there any club events scheduled? I'm still having trouble with this website, so figure I've probably missed a few already......

A couple pictures from my recent outings....

    Tim,

it's certainly interesting to compare the way your boat runs in light chop with the performance of my dad's 37 Canoe Cove. The latter with twin 6V-53 naturals (24 X 24 or 23 X 26 four blade) at 220 hp(2750/1.5:1) and 13 foot beam. This kind of chop made for optimal performance in a deep V hull (23° dead rise). However, the Skagit runs remarkably well with greater stability than I would've thought. Of course, having a helmsman that understands the Skagit goes a long way to optimize performance.

Your boat has to be one of the prettiest on the water.

Nice pictures Tim. I really like that sunrise shot!
Your boat still looks amazing and in the video it looks as though the water is the same color as your boat

That is what its all about Tim. All that hard work and now time to enjoy some of it ;-)

My fault on the Events page. Something happened in programming and it kind of went away so Not what I was wanting to happen.
The Grand Plan is to have a button on the site, you click on that button and Up comes a page with the events on it.
Sorry but we only had a couple and the rest are are going to be ACBS Fresh water events and our Outboard motor friends (boy, I feel pretty stupid as I forgot the name, part of getting old I hope)
At that point on the Events page, I or others (Moderators) can Update by adding in events.

I will go back and post something again about my good intentions. Happy Boating Boss

Just got back in the water on the 24th Hauled the Saratogan at Jensen's Shipyard, Friday Harbor on the 15th. Had a pretty good barnacle growth on the hull. Figured I could clean it and redo the anti-fouling in five days. Was ten days, haul-out to launch. Lost one day, needed to run to the mainland. Zincs and changed to the backup set of props. I was worn out when they finally launched me! It was a grind.
Boat runs great, so guess it was worth the effort. Hit 30.3 mph off Willow Island on my return to Anacortes. Got four years out of the original CopperPoxy anti-fouling. Pretty good.

Not sure what my plans are at the moment. Make some dough so I can put some fuel on board and go cruising. Want to take the boat to Squim Bay and up into Canada. Will see? Got some other issues to deal with at the moment......

            Cheers,

            Tim
