    New Kid - Glasspar

Hello..new kid here..not much to say. I'm stuck in the middle with a boat that isn't super old but far from new. '69 Glasspar

I'm not a restoration nut but I'm not somebody to be neglectful of my boat either. I take care of it and fix it as needed..

I'll look for some photos to post..

The best ofcourse...avalon !! considered a 15 Foot that year although I measure 14.8 from tip to transom..guess they rounded back then Actually, I haven't measured it very acurately..so could be a few inches closer to 15..but in anycase I still think they rounded for the brochure.

A few more photos...I've redone much of it...Photos show the rear deck I made. I did this for a few reasons..mainly to cover up the uglyness of a splashwell, but also to enhance the look of the boat and make the area more functional..good place to sit, put the water skiis when wet, etc...it is suspended across with 4 Stainless Steel hatch hinges. I can remove this deck by removing the 4 pins or just remove 2 and pivot up on end. I have Hydraulic motor control..so I left enough room to raise motor when needed.

A few more of my seats...I made new bases...around 4 inches...aftermarket bases are too high...these photos were not the final product but you get the idea. I was fitting them prior to covering with vinyl ( I had enough good vinyl from the original bases that I was able to recycle that and just trim off the extra ).

                    Hello Tenderfoot,
Good looking Glaspar 15! I had one just like this. Bought it new in late 1969, my first boat. My friend had one with an 85 Johnson on it. I had to go faster, so bought mine with a 115 Johnson. Wasn't appreciably faster, except in a good chop when I could get it airborne. Did about 45.

The motor left me stranded several times (pulse pack failure), so I sold the whole rig about six months later. I remember chine walking the thing in rough water on Lake Washington! Scary!

                    Nice boat! Brings back memories!

The 70 Evinrude (3 cylinder) will push this Avalon to 38 mph. That's with a 17" pitch SS 3 blade prop (threw prop. exhaust).

I've skipped across Lake Washington many times at 35 mph in chop...it takes air and can be quite the white knuckle ride...I've been out in pretty big chop on that lake at times (east side of lake gets more wind...). I'll have to get photos next time I do that on the lake....I typically am racing against a brother of mine who tempts me with his 21 foot Donzi....ok well not really a race since his Donzi can easily exceed my max. speed.

Last time out (pre-winter) I enjoyed just sitting and watching the Seattle Seahawks train at their new facility on Lake Washington (west side of lake just north of Coulon Park)...yer' technically not suppose to drop anchor there..but no harm since it's super shallow there.

Welcome aboard Gordon. Sweet looking ride you have there. I found that this group is pretty much " run whatcha brung" and "getem off the trailer" bunch . Only one boat though, tell me your secret. I have 3 and still find myself aimlessly searching craiglist,Ebay, cruising the alleys, peeking over fences.

Yes, The avalon was exhilarating going fast in a chop. Solid boat. HAd to be to take what I put it through......gee, I hope you don't have my former Avalon....LOL !
