Ok, time to load up on some resto-preservation pics! Prepare yourselves, this is the beginning! I will preface the pics with I'm not the one doing the work right now. I've commissioned a guy you all might know...he goes by the name of Helmar. Heard of him?

The glass I have is a port with a crack in it. Its good enough for a form. Is that the one missing? I cant find my heaters I'm looking into getting another tomorrow.

yes, so that's looking quite worth the effort, Kelly. Over time and with multiple buffing with wax, should start to have the uniform look to match the rest of boat, awesome progress !And Brian, great news about Melanie, we need her back boating and getting that fine boat running again.

Stripped most of the hardware from the hardtop to see how well it will buff out. I only did half to show the difference. I used 1500 grit to just remove a small layer because the gelcoat is thin. It didn't bring out a high Polish but it did bring some color back. I might hit it again with 800-1000 grit and go up from there. I also used 3m restorer polish, the same that I used on the Uniflite. It's not bad but could be better, smoother.

Also, I have an update on Melanie's Skagit... I decided to stop by their house yesterday and just knock on the door, since our old contact info is no longer valid.. It turns out, like many us experience periodically, they have been dealing with sick parents and other family issues which have prevented them from playing with their beloved Skagit. They are NOT interested in selling it or the McChesney they have stored away. They are hopeful that with finally getting some relieve from the family issues, and after a move this winter, they are hoping to have the Skagit back in the water for spring 2017!! Which means over the winter we may see some posts from Melanie on the forum seeking parts, or advice, to get the old boat back together!

The only reason I am not posting Skip's info on the internet is that it is his personal cell phone, not a company phone. Middie Plastics is, for the general public, closed down... There are 2 or 3 guys still working on small projects and doing some contract work but for individual projects you have to be referred by a previous customer... There is a very strong likelihood that Skip will finally retire in 2017, at which point it is most likely that the Middie Plastics building will likely go up for sale marking the true demise of the once great manufacturer.
