Mason Lake Event Details--Sept. 25

Mason Boat Activity

I was due to ding a prop... Been a long time since the last one...

We had great weather, so the boats were out most of the time, the restored 28 foot GarWood rarely shut off, there were two fresh restorations from Bruce Bronson's shop running, (it turns out he found the same hump inside the float earlier in the day ) a few Century's and several Chris Crafts. The entire Flaherty family was out, with both Chris Crafts and an outboard picklefork that does about 80... Everyone was giving rides all day, ( I think I circumnavigated the lake seven times) and except for lunch, I don't think all the boats were ever tied up at one time.

We had four boats displayed on trailers as well.

There were a couple of light rain showers late in the day, but by then most of the cars had gone back to their garages, and the fleet was in the middle of the final tour of the lake, following the big Gar.

As Dick Dow already stated above, Mason lake was / is an amazing little place to have an event. I had a blast contaiminating the ACBS event with a little colorful plastic Like Dick, I found the bottom as well, although I did it with the motor shut off attempting to beach the boat, so I have to conduct a little low budget prop repair this week.

I am still trying to decide about coming all the way down there again this weekend, its 4.5 hours of driving each way from Bellingham and last weekend it took 7 hours to get home in the pooring rain... Also the better half is working this weekend so if I can get some friends to commit to being copilots then I suppose I will likely make the trek again.. :Bigdriving1:

I got conformation from my co-pilot/wife.... We will be there with 'Ol Slowmow the Bellboy. I think I'll have one of my Grandsons in tow as well... never to young to start um diggin old boats!! Really looking forward to it I have been sorely lacking on the water time. - Ross

Looks like it's gonna be a good turnout! The weather report looks promising for Saturday so no excuses!

I plan on bringing the BB16 with no interior. I may even have to pull start the motors since the electrical won't be done. Regardless, I'm determined to make at least one event this year!:Skipper1:

Come to Mason Lake (!)

Mason Lake always draws a crowd, partly because it's a great place to run our boats, and perhaps also because it's the last official event of the season and many of us who've missed some earlier gatherings want "one last fling" before putting boats away.

This year, there are several extra-special reasons to attend, starting with our new venue (Simpson Recreation Park, at 500 East Mason Lake Drive West, Grapeview 98546), but definitely including the public debut of at least three exciting boats--1) Greg Lamb's beautifully customized Glastron, described as nothing short of awesome by those who've had a sneak peek; 2) Dave Wickline's spectacular Bell Boy 16-foot hardtop, and 3) Bruce Drake's rare and showroom-clean 1950's Axtell wooden racing runabout with Merc gone over by Dr. Frankenmerc.

As mentioned earlier, Simpson Recreation Park is a private waterfront facility we've rented for the day, thanks to one-time Simpson employee Thom Adams, who secured use of the park for NWCBC. The park has an excellent launch ramp with tons of parking for tow rigs and trailers; floats and docks; a soft beach to haul boats up on; covered picnic shelter, and other attractions that should make this a terrific place for our annual Mason Lake Rendezvous.

We'll launch boats between about 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., run the lake for awhile, gather at the picnic shelter for an informal potluck around 1 p.m., and run the boats some more!

Weather for Saturday looks ideal--68 degrees for the high, with a mix of sun and clouds but NO RAIN in the forecast (!)

If you're on the fence, please come to this event and help us make it the biggest of the 2010 season. You won't be sorry, considering the members and boats that'll be at Mason Lake...and as a bonus, NWCBC will offer some terrific raffle prizes, ranging from cups and logo mousepads to entire project boats. (Okay, so we might have to draw several tickets in order to find willing adoptees for some of the project boats, but they're on the list and available for the raffle.)

Finally, if you're bringing an outboard-driven hull, please consider beaching your boat along the shoreline...leaving at least 2-3 float spaces for inboard boats that will be attending, since the inboards cannot be beached without risking damage to their props, rudders, shafts, etc.) Inboards will include Mike and Judy's 20-foot Skagit express, Marty's 17-foot Skagit runabout, and Brian Flaherty's classic-glass Chris-Craft runabout.

Theme for the day will be "Give Someone a Ride," so all of us are encouraged to take guests for boat rides--those who attend without boats, but also fellow boat owners, so that all of us get a chance to experience different styles, sizes and types of classic powerboats.

Bring whatever you want for the potluck....it always works out, and of course we end up with plenty of good food.

As others have stated, the Simpson Park is a beautiful place for a boat event. Here are a few pictures from last weekend. The Lake was like glass and perfect for running all day! Hope the weather is as good or better than last weekend!

Marty, I hope to be there on Sat.. The starter I was having problems with at Lake Chelan has to be replaced because the magnet was broken in about six places. I'm surprized it worked at all after I started to have problems with it. I'll never buy another rebuilt starter. I"ve got another one on order. Hopefully it will be here in time.

I'll be there even if I don't have a boat, starter or know how to fish. It will be fun just to visit and see all those great boats, it sounds like a nice time will be had by all.
