Marine Towing Small Boat Handling in Rough Weather

    Howdy,
A location hasn't been picked yet. Perhaps you can suggest a location or locations?

I am a retired assistance towing contractor, a licensed master of 25 years with about ten thousand operating hours, most of that in San Juan County.

    Three topics will be covered:

Safe towing with small boats. How to keep out of trouble.

A look at Admiralty Law and marine salvage. Start off with ancient law, English Law, American Law and the Blackwall. A look at SALCON89 and it's implications to recreational boaters.

I'll clear up a lot of misconceptions on the subject of marine salvage, your rights and obligations every time you leave the dock. I'll talk about my 1983 lawsuit Binden v. Jones, a Federal Court case.

Lastly I'll talk about small boat handling in rough weather. Planning ,timing, tides and currents, cross seas, most everything you need to know to get in on a bad day.

I'll also talk about our 1960 Cape Scott adventure in a 14 foot Sabrecraft.
To refresh your memory, Cape Scott is on the north end of Vancouver Island.

I'll have handouts and links for those wanting to know more. You'll come away with some good basic knowledge of the laws that govern the water- ways so that you don't have to learn this stuff the hard way.

Not to be missed, will see you there...

      All-Weather Boat Handling

      Tim -

Hopefully, the earlier offer of Mike and Judy Kronick to use the NWCBC "clubhouse" still stands. (It's a big converted greenhouse in their Tacoma-area backyard, complete with woodstove, where we've held the past two annual club meetings.)

      Mike and Judy...?

            Mike.
You might want to have some refreshments on hand for folks and I suggest that you get a reimbursement for it!!.

I would also suggest a Fuel Fund Jar to be set out for the Instructor.
Coming from Friday Harbor, he has at least two ferry rides and a Very long way to travel.

Joe, Amanda, What say you mates ??

Anyone else want to chime in to discuss this or, just Do It.?

              Helmar.
The club house comes with refreshments. We have some funds left over from the last meeting. Just have to find the drawer it's hidden in. Good idea on gas fund.

I'm hoping to attend, too, probably car-pooling with Helmar.

boat handling -- please set a time

I will be coming up from Portland. Any time figured out for the event? Mid-morning is much preferred over mid-afternoon.

I'll be there too, I've been looking forward to it all winter. Thank you Tim for sharing your knowledge, experiences and stories with us. Tim if you have the time it would be nice to hear about your large boat project too. I too support the gas tip jar, education like this anywhere else if you can get it is expensive. Does anyone want to carpool with me leaving South Everett area?
